Oregon Gets Another Dose of the Auburn Family

Just as Oregon thought they had heard the last of the Auburn Tigers, one of our Auburn Clubs kicked off football season in the Northwest with a “War Eagle!”

The Pacific Northwest Auburn Club reminded Oregon what the Auburn Family is all about at the club’s annual picnic. More than 30 Auburn alumni and fans attended the free event at Sellwood Park in Portland.

Guests enjoyed local barbecue as well as delicious side dishes and desserts provided by club members.

For this year’s fundraiser, the club held a silent auction and raffle. One particularly popular item was an original painting by club member, Pappy Corbitt. The painting, cleverly titled “Auburn Over Oregon,” depicts a beautiful orange and blue sunset scene over the Columbia River Gorge.

With great food, prizes and, of course, plenty of Auburn spirit, the event was a success. As Club President Brandon Chockley said, “We couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

I am so glad this club is growing and active. I tried to start the club back in the late 1970's with noluck. We just did not have enough Auburn people living in Oregon at that time. Keep up the good work.
